The Associates
Friday January 18, 2002
By CATHERINE DAWSON MARCH Globe Television
CTV, 9 p.m.
The eager young lawyers of The Associates are back for 18 more episodes.
The Associates is eminently more watchable than First Monday because it’s more personable. Instead of arguing about the dry legal details of Big Issues as in CBS’ series, The Associates weaves stories around Big Issues that make it to the courtroom, such as organ donation and domestic abuse in the first two shows. In tonight’s season opener, Mitch (Gabriel Hogan) deals with his father’s death all over again while working on a heartbreaking case and Robyn (Tamara Hickey) spends an awful lot of time wrangling with immigration authorities at the airport doing a "favour" for a senior partner.
Guest stars this season include Sean Cullen as a useless office temp, Degrassi’s Stefan Brogen as a low-rent lawyer, Rebecca Jenkins as Robyn’s long-lost mother and Eddie Greenspan as himself.
