BYE BYE BLUES" 25TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY
FRIDAY | APR 17 | 7PM
METRO CINEMA (8712 109 ST - GARNEAU THEATRE) EDMONTON, ALBERTA
$15 STUDENTS/SENIORS/FAVA/AMPIA/ESPC MEMBERS | $20 GENERAL PUBLIC
TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE ONLINE AT METROCINEMA.ORG
After spending years on the shelf due to copyright issues, Bye Bye Blues resurfaces and comes to Edmonton for the 25th anniversary of its premiere screening at the Garneau Theatre. Director Anne Wheeler, actress Rebecca Jenkins and copyright lawyer Joel Bakan will be in attendance for a moderated conversation and Q&A after the screening. Come see this Canadian Classic as it re-enters the spotlight.
When Daisy Cooper discovers that her husband has been captured during Singapore's fall to the Japanese in World War II, she takes a job as a piano player with a local dance band in order to make a living for herself and her children. It is while on tour with this ragtag outfit, amid the smoke, the booze, and the brawling, that Daisy’s self-discovery really begins. For Daisy, the war offers a bitterly ironic blessing: while it has separated her from her husband, it has introduced her to a side of life, not to mention herself, she might otherwise never have known. When word reaches her that peace has been declared and her husband is on his way home, Daisy faces her own conflicting loyalties and desires. (Mongrel Media)
The evening starts off with a special musical performance with Rebecca Jenkins and Joel Bakan. FAVA is please to be screening a mint condition 35mm print of the film thanks to the University of Alberta Archives.
Sponsors: AMAAS, AMPIA, CKUA, Edmonton Social Planning Council, FAVA, and Metro Cinema.

KEVIN BREIT'S NEW ALBUM IS NOW OUT FEATURING DUETS WITH REBECCA JENKINS
Kevin Breit’s latest album, Ernesto & Delilah is garnering rave reviews. This epic double-CD set with two distinctly different albums, but both are distinctly Breit. The first disc, Ernesto, is fully instrumental and is bold with classic Brazilian sounds and atmosphere, with styles ranging from classical to jazz.
The second disc, Delilah, is a gorgeous album of duets with vocalist and actress Rebecca Jenkins. The 11 original tracks on Delilah are the stuff dreams are made of - highlighting the ethereal vocals of Breit and Jenkins as well as Breit’s mastery if his instruments and exceptional storytelling. All it takes are a few seconds of listening to be completely wrapped up in the sounds and stories within Ernersto & Delilah and to realize the extent of the genius and talents of Kevin Breit. It is the 25th anniversary of Anne Wheeler award winning movie "BYE BYE BLUES".
We would like to invite you to, two special screenings of the film at the Vancouver International Film Festival, one on and the second viewing on Friday October 10 at 2:30 p.m., both at Vancity Theatre.
Here is link to more information. http://www.viff.org/festival/films/f12398-bye-bye-blues
Here is a little background of what has been going on with the "Bye Bye Blue's Movie".
Rebecca and I (Joel Bakan) are happy to announce that, after several years of legal wrangling, we managed to save Bye Bye Blues, Anne Wheeler's classic 1989 film, starring Rebecca, from oblivion. The rights to the film had become so confused they could not be located. As a result, broadcasters had stopped broadcasting the film, there were only a handful of battered VHS copies for sale on line and in the few video stores still operating, and a digital version of the film was impossible due to the unlocatability of the rights. The film was going to die.
To make a long story short, after years of hard work, false leads, and dead ends, we teamed up with David Zitzerman, a Toronto copyright lawyer, applied to the Copyright Board for a license under an obscure provision of the Copyright Act, and that license was granted (in Rebecca's name). This is the first time such a license has been granted by the board for a full feature film (though grants have been made in the past for smaller works, such as photographs, clips from films, and even jokes). Our hope is that this license sets a precedent for saving other lost Canadian feature films from oblivion.

Rebecca
has just released her new Jazz Album
titled, "Rebecca Jenkins and Her
Trio, Live at the Cellar" Please
read more below and follow the links
to listen and download.
Rebecca Jenkins and Her Trio, Live at The Cellar was recorded at Vancouver’s storied Cory Weeds’ Jazz Cellar in February 2014, just weeks before the club closed its doors for the last time. It was a magical evening for both the musicians and audience as Rebecca and the trio swung and grooved their way through two sets of jazz standards, cool covers, and haunting originals, every tune jumping with soulfulness and joy. Backed by her long-time trio this is Rebecca’s third solo album, after Blue Skies (2008) and Something’s Coming (2012), and adds to a body of work that includes albums with the Parachute Club, Jane Siberry, and Kevin Breit, among others, as well as a soundtrack album from the film Bye Bye Blues in which Rebecca played a 1940s jazz singer, a role for which she won a Genie Award for best actress. That film helped launch Rebecca’s career as one of Canada’s most beloved and accomplished film and television actors, with numerous starring and award-winning roles over the years (alongside the likes of Tim Robbins, Kevin Spacey, and Ellen Page), and most recently in Sarah Polley’s critically-acclaimed Stories We Tell (2012). Rebecca's Live at The Cellar and her other albums can be purchased at: For more information about this album and upcoming performances by Rebecca, please follow this link:
