Rebecca Jenkins/Blue Skies Album Reviews
Reviewer: TV Week magazine
Canadian actress/singer Jenkins, a Genie-winner for her portrayal of a 1940s jazz singer in Bye Bye Blues, reprises the role in real life on this well-conceived set of standards. Minimal accompaniment leaves plenty of room for her lissome voice, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s jazzier leanings.
Excellent CD, great song selection and interpretation.

Heard Rebecca live in Naples Fl, so was eager to hear the new CD...was very pleased ...Joel's guitar comping lays down tasty jazz grooves...the combo creates enjoyable dynamic interplay ...Canadians do groove...horn affectionadios will love the trumpet and fluegle horn solos...a solid CD ...the expressive vocal scating is icing on the cake...
How lovely! A beautiful take on a judiciously chosen set of standards

Rebecca's voice, with its bright, clear tone, is nicely framed and supported by Joel's inconspicuous, Charlie Christian-like guitar and some perfectly understated horn solos. I really like the way Rebecca swung the tunes, loved the bits of scatting and the bossa nova-styled Astrid Gilberto-like arrangements (though Rebecca's voice is far better than Gilberto's). I though the bravest thing Rebecca did was to take on the two Billie Holidays, especially songs so fully identified with her. "In My Solitude" was the one number that I didn't think fully worked--picking up the tempo, submerging the voice in the instruments at the beginning of the arrangement. But I loved "God Bless the Child," which Rebecca made uniquely her own. In fact I love almost all of the album, which I've now listened to about 5 times. Didn't realize Rebecca's voice was so high. And pure and sultry at the same time.
Sweet melodies envelope the listener.

My family sat down over dinner and listened to this CD and it was like having an old friend in the room. A little Astrid Gilberto, a little Billie Holiday but all Rebecca Jenkins. The simple arrangements and intimacy of Jenkins' voice allows those pure sweet melodies to envelope the listener. We were enthralled by our first listening and KNOW Blue Skies will become a welcome and frequent dinner companion.
Enchanting and well sung selection

This collection was no disappointment to me. I first became aware of Rebecca's great singing style while watching her in Bye Bye Blues. That was a wonderful movie and I have taken advantage of every opportunity to see her movies since. This CD is perfect. She chose the right songs and sang them perfectly. Her voice has a sweetness and purity that enchants the listener.
